Introduction

This is the Blog or website of the Loonies, the first question you should be asking right now is "What on earth is a Loony?" Well, good question, and I'm not quite sure how to answer it. I suppose I should begin by telling how I found out. I am a student at Channing Hall Charter School in Draper, Utah. One day in English (my 1st period), we read a short story called Mad Moon by Stanley G. Weinbaum (we were on our short story unit). The story takes place in the future, civilization has spread to one of Jupiter's moons, Io. There are these creatures that live on Io called Lunae Jovis Magnicapites or "Loonies" for short. The story's starting description of them is "...the four loonies giggled. Their great, idiotic heads, looking like nothing so much as the comic faces painted on Sunday balloons for children, swayed in unison on their five-foot necks, as thin as Grant's wrist." We are not sure if Loonies are humanoid or stand on four legs, most of us think that they stand on four legs and all of our drawings give the impression that they have four legs. All we know is that they have very thin, five-foot long necks, round, balloon-like heads, comical, smiling faces, three tows, and they giggle a lot (alot) and love candy. The hilarity didn't really mount until our teacher sketched a loony on the white board.

And it simply grew from there. If you want to read up on the full story of Mad Moon, then go to http://www.forgottenfutures.com/game/ff11/html/madmoon.htm. Thanks for reading the introduction, and enjoy the rest of the Blog! (This Blog was created in 2014, I changed the year on each post to control the order of the posts.)

Loony Surprise

We came back from our special classes the same day we found out about the loonies to find this projected on the white board XD.

Our English teacher, Ms. Sudman, had created a Loony with clip art and Microsoft shapes! But that wasn't all! She played the sound of a creepy child laughing on a continuous loop. So just to set the scene here, we walk into English to find "Welcome Back!" written on the board with a Loony under it laughing its head off while we start panicking. Then we calm down and sit down to find these on each of our desks:

It was probably The Scariest thing I've seen in my entire life. Ms. Sudman proceeded to do that to the rest of the periods so Loonies became a popular subject among us 6th graders. After that, we were joking around as much as possible and promptly forgot what we were supposed to be doing and didn't even notice that we were in school. It was great! Some of us couldn't breath for laughing.

Loony Shape ideas

Here's some ideas of the shape of a Loony's Body; as I said before, I'm not sure if they are humaniod:

Many of these are simply mistakes but who cares!

The Prank

So this is all very funny right? Right. And we--as a class--wanted to take the humor up to a higher level by pranking someone. I really hope Mr. Worthley, my 3rd period teacher, isn't reading this cause it would be really bad if he did. You see, we had this huge, awesome prank planned out that involved putting Loonies in his classroom and driving him mad cause he wouldn't know what they are. We unfortunately didn't do it right. Rather than beginning by placing one Loony and then later two, then three, then four, and building from there, we began with 7000 of them everywhere!!! And that didn't quite create the effect we intended; Mr. Worthley only seemed irritated :(. So then prank is dead now. Although we would NEVER compare to one of my sisters' generation of prankers who froze his coffee mug in a bucket of ice.

I unfortunately don't have any pictures of this.

Species of Loonies

There are many different types of Loonies in my imagination, I mean, why only have one? So I created ten new Loonies:

Joy Loony:
All Loonies are happy, but none of them can match Joy Loony's happiness. This Loony shows the very meaning of happy.
Devilry Loony:
This is why you stay away from Ouija boards (there's a smile deep down in there somewhere).
trolLOONY:
This Loony trolls a person out of their mind.
Jack, the Loony King:
You remember Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas right?
Swag Loony:
Swag + Loony=Swag Loony, it's that simple.
GolLOON:
This is what happens when a Loony wonders into Gollum's cave.
Dark Loony (my favorite one):
this Loony loves dark chocolate above all else.
Caged Loony:
Nicolas Cage...
Benedict LOONberbatch:
I'm not really sure what to say on this one. Simply that the I got the picture from Star Trek Into Darkness when I paused Khan in mid-sentence.
Loony Lovegood:
We all know of the character Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter. Throughout the books, people call Luna 'Loony', well I did just that.

Teacher Appreciation Week

For teacher appreciation week (which was after all of the events previously mentioned), I took advantage of the simplicity of a loony's body and fashioned two loonies for my 1st and 2nd period teachers. The first had a body made of two decorated tissue boxes taped together, tows made out of twix, and a balloon head. I only got a picture of the head.
And here's the one I made for my 2nd period teacher:
His name is Edgar
